Indications
Cefpodoxime 200 mg + Potassium Clavulanate 125 mg Tablets are indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, including:
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Acute bronchitis and exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Sinusitis
- Tonsillitis and pharyngitis
- Ear infections (Otitis media)
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Dental infections
- Bone and joint infections (as prescribed)
- Other bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms
Contraindications
This medicine should not be used in patients with:
- Known hypersensitivity to Cefpodoxime, Clavulanic Acid, Cephalosporins, Penicillins, or any component of the formulation
- History of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) to beta-lactam antibiotics
- Previous cholestatic jaundice or liver dysfunction associated with clavulanate-containing antibiotics
- Severe renal impairment unless dosage adjustment is advised by a physician
- Infectious mononucleosis (use with caution as antibiotic-associated rash may occur)
Usage / Dosage
- Take one tablet twice daily or as directed by your physician.
- Preferably take the medicine after food to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
- Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve earlier.
- Do not skip doses or discontinue treatment without consulting your healthcare provider.
Precautions
- Use only for confirmed or suspected bacterial infections; it is ineffective against viral illnesses such as the common cold or influenza.
- Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or a history of antibiotic-associated colitis.
- Prolonged use may result in fungal or other secondary infections.
- Consult your physician before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking to avoid potential drug interactions.
